Just to chime in my own opinion on this subject, I think that hotlinking and image theft cannot be prevented at all. However, it will be discouraged if each hosted image is watermarked in the center. This in turn will also discourage original viewers here at SP. I make my own VidCaps and spend an awful lot of time doing so. I don't just randomly cap frames, but am very picky and very diligent about what I do. I actually view it as a work of art. This is the only celeb site that I post these VidCaps at (just did some tonight as a matter of fact).
A few years ago, I used to heavily post VidCaps of Beverley Mitchell, Heather Locklear, Megyn Price, Amanda Bynes, etc... and this was the only place I did so. I then stumbled upon a few other sites that were using my exact VidCaps and not mentioning where they came from at all. I even registered as a user at 1 particular site just to inform a poster who reposted a gathering of my Bev caps that I was the person who made them (to which this person was claiming them as his). I got so disgusted that I stopped for a while.
Thinking things have changed since then, I started making more VidCaps and posting them here again a few months ago. Unfortunately, I caught someone in the act again. I really enjoy making these for everyone to see so rather than stop all together, I've begun tagging each cap with my user name.
It's unfortunate that some people try to pass things off as their own, but that's the way of the world today. It can't be stopped.

Image code snatching is preventable on vBulletin forums (with that additional script). It makes it so that when you quote a post the image links dont show up or don't show up entirely.
It is also alot of work to watermark every image. It's especially wrong because none of us owns the images posted (with little exceptions). Though I do understand caps and scans because it does take some time to make those images presentable.

We don't like watermarking. Especially big and obvious ones. Our goal is to discourage taking posts and copying codes directly. Individual pics, once they are on the net, are going to make the rounds of websites and forums. Nothing can stop that.
I totally understand the incentive with your modified approach DT however the types of site the thumbnail-link I designed was intended to discourage won't pick that up because it's not linked to an imagehost ... here's an actual example ...
Your recent "Mira Sorvino" post on a stealing site:
.. again this isn't for the sake of argument ... I wish your version worked too!!
I still recommend using the following code for this type of approach - I believe it's more likely to work on the offending sites like the one illustrated above: (displays the thumb and links to the HQ version of the thumb)
Fark! I just checked that Celebrity123.com site and I don't think your code would work either Boones. If it was going to then they should have also picked up the copyright display pic I put in my screencap posts. But those aren't listed or shown there either.

hmmm ... my guess is he is probably sifting through what his bot grabs before he posts maybe ... I am going to put it in some of my new posts to to see what happens too.
At the end. And the no-hotlinking thumbnail link at the beginning. I don't think that makes any difference. Bots aren't going to care where those are, they'll just pick up any and all links. Same with a human manually checking what a bot grabs, he(/she) is most likely just hitting "next" and "delete" buttons paging thru large batches so putting them in the middle won't matter.
