i don't know why everyone thinks firefox is the solution. but it's not. no matter what browser i've used, ie, firefox, etc, i still get this virus warning when i visit this site. and just now everything froze. after a while i got a message with that whole dr watson postmortem debugger. i've check my pc for viruses and everything is cleared. so there's obviously something on this site that's causing this site to be horriblenot just for me but for others. someone needs to check to see whats going on and fast. this has been happening to me for several days now. i don't get any problems with any other sites or forums i visit, just this one.

I would of thought Firefox with No Script plus Adblock would have got rid of the ad junk.
Not sure about the virus warning - I run AVG and its picked up nothing. Also I run Spyware Blaster in the background which also stops spyware crap.
Have you run Hijack This! to see if something hasn't been installed on your computer?

nothing malicious is installed on my pc. i've already checked with everything. nothing found. it's something that's on this forum. i also know that imagevenue has been having this problem too. the thing is i haven't even viewed any pics on this site and i still get messed with. i don't have any probs on any other site but this one. i get the virus warning, sometimes i don't, but it always freezes up and sometimes i get a message saying an attack was prevented on my pc. the thing is once i get out of the site and come back again nothing happens anymore. until that is i come back again the next day. this always happens.

demonoid, i have been at this forum for 3 and a half years, and this site has never, not once done anything malicious to my machine. i really think you should run another through check on your machine. check cookies, temp files, even your registry. there has to be something triggering the scans.

Another group has banned imagevenue pix cos they've "recently signed up with a very aggressive advertiser that a hijacker and a Trojan virus in it's advertisements."

Are you thinking of doing the same ?

It's being discussed, however imagevenue is probably the main imagehost used here (at celebutopia it isn't) and most people download the images with a mass downloading program such as gallery grabber. I personally don't want to see it go, but as it is becoming a problem it's something that we are having to look into

Okay, but in today's computer age, no matter which browser you run, it's not enough. You need (with IE) to run a 'hosts' file, updated regularly. With Firefox, you need to run 'Adblock+' and 'NoScripts' extensions. I haven't yet seen you say that you're doing that.

I read an article in the tech section of the Tampa Tribune last week, said that the latest hackers' trick is to hack the ad company's servers, and insert a small script into the ad pop-up scripts. These additional scripts send your browser (in hidden mode) to a website to download a piece of malware (trojan, virus, spyware or adware). Apparently this is happening to your computer when logging into this site.

The article went on to say that the onus is on the ad companies to secure their servers from this type of hack. I strongly disagree. I believe it is the responsibility of each user to secure his own machine. To prevent this type of attack, you MUST either run IE (or Opera) with a 'hosts' file, or firefox with blocking extensions. To do otherwise is to invite the hackers in to your machine.

Additionally with adblock or adblock+ get the Filterset G Updater extension so that it actually blocks some ads... Naturally you can write your own filters, but Filterset G seems to work pretty well, and saves a bunch of work.

Another source of host file entries is Spybot Search & Destroy. If you're using Spybot switch to Advanced Mode and then under Tools go to Hosts file and then click the Add Spybot S&D hosts List button - I don't know how that compares to the other hosts file mentioned above, but some people may find this easier to do...

That's excellent! I've been using Spybot Search & Destroy for several years now, and didn't realize it had a "hosts" file option!

As for Filterset G extension, here's what adblock Plus.org says about it in their FAQ:
Do I need to install Filterset.G Updater?

I don't know about that stuff, I just read and report it. I'm using one of the listed filter sets (EasyList USA), and have no problems.

Also, in Spybot | Tools go to the IE Tweaks page and check Lock Hosts file as read-only as protection against hijackers - it can't hurt
