The A Team. I wasn't expecting a great movie. Just a time killer that I picked up in a hurry. It wasn't even that good. It took to extremes the all too typical problem of action movies these days of trying to be more spectacular than all other action movies and defying all possibilities, even all physics, in the process. Note to director: A bazooka will not sink a large ship. cheeky

Spaced invaders

Quote:
When one saucer of an invasion force has engine trouble, it lands on Earth. It happens to be Halloween and it happens the invaders are only about 4 feet tall. As the bumbling aliens wander around the countryside they are taken to be children and they make friends with two children, one of whom is the daughter of the sheriff. As their troubles mount (it's difficult for five aliens to conquer a world) they begin to give up their plans of conquest, but then there is that nasty killer robot.

A crew of Martians overhears a radio broadcast of Orson Wells _War of the Worlds_ coming from Earth, and, thinking the Martian fleet is attacking Earth, they land their broken-down ship in a backwater mid-American town. As luck would have it, they land on Halloween and get mistaken for trick-or-treaters. Comedy ensues as the Martians try to get taken seriously.

Mindless comedy. Some great oneliners. An ok movie, if you have nothing better to do.

Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX. Was cool seeing one of the classic Indiana Jones films on the big screen!

You only watch this movie for one reason:Scott Atkins. Dude's a bad ass. The movie is bad on most levels except for the fights. They're entertaining. The beginning is lame and slow. The middle is ok and the final act is pretty fun.

I watched this for 2 reasons.

The big reason: Phoebe Tonkin.

The other reason: It's an Australian film which I love.

Here's the gist:

A group of random characters we get a bit of back story about end up in a grocery store when a Tsunami hits and brings the ocean with it. Oh NO now there is 2 sharks in the grocery store and parking garage what will our characters do agghhhhhhhhhhh. The main character already has deep seeded anger towards the most lovable creature of the ocean because a curious one decided to eat his friend. Along for the ride is his ex fiance, the hot shop lifter, her cop dad, a good hearted thief thrust into doing bad to help another, a true bad thief, a douche bag and his dumb but hot girlfriend and her stupid dog, the asshole store manager, a random girl who works at grocery store, and some nobody who gets eaten pretty fast. Who will survive? DaaaDUMMMM!

Here's the setting:

A grocery store that i guess is somewhat underground? I dunno whatever it doesn't matter. Also a parking garage. Both of which have an equally perturbed shark trolling for human flesh.A movie set which is mostly water is fine in my book. Water love

How was the acting:

It varied from ok to horrible. I thought the main guy was good enough and so was the guy who played Tonkin's boyfriend(He was on Chronicle WOOT!). Julian McMahon was pretty bad and he seems to forget he can act on anything besides the first few seasons of Nip/Tuck. Sharni Vinson who plays the ex fiance is pretty horrid in most scenes. She did manage to squeeze a few tears out though Hah!

How was Dem CGI Sharks:

Horrible. Pretty bad CGI sharks. The Snickers Sharks are probably more realistic looking. And of course this movie treats sharks like most movies like it do... blood thirsty for human... but whatever I can let it slide since hollywood loves to give them a bad rap.

The action:

There is a few semi cool shark kills. Most underwater unseen ones but there is a guy who gets ripped in half in mid air. Pretty cool to see since he was a dick. I will admit the way the sharks die is pretty cool. Cheesy or fake? maybe but it was cool.

How was The Tonkin:

Lovable and amazing as always . She looked mint.

Was it entertaining:

Yesssir. It's a stupid shark movie but I enjoyed it. It was plagued with most ravenous animal movie tropes but it did them well enough for me to enjoy watching it. What can I say those Aussie's know how to make good or at least entertaining movies. I am grading this on how I feel it did in terms of movies of the same ilk. So people trying to survive animals from killing them and such.

Final:3 out of 5(One of the better shark movies in recent memory albeit not much competition)

*Yes I made this needlessly long mwahaha

The Cabin in the woods.

I was just "it's ok" the first time. But I wasn't in the mood I guess because this time I liked it.

Seeing it again for the umpteenth time...

"Memphis Belle" - Matthew Modine, Sean Astin, David Straithairn
1990

Based on a True story of WWII American Bomber crew who did their 25 missions over Europe. 10 young men in each B17 bomber. The film develops each character very well, and gives the viewer the feeling of what it must have been like to be in an airplane, getting shot at, and knowing you could go down at any moment, as you have seen other planes do on every mission.

The technical aspects of the film are well done..except that the "wheel" takes a thousand hand cranks to come down..which if true, is an engineering fail.

Billy Zane is at his peak..ridden through Titanic, DB Sweeney is as real as a character can get....Virg..the Virgin is also a great character, and now he is on "Franklin and Bash" (recommended)

Sean Astin is such a chameleon actor..he is exactly who he is..but he changes so much it is amazing...that's not "Rudy" in that ball turret...but it is.

Harry Connick Jr. is one of those "just too talented" guys that can do it all...and his "Oh Lord Please" from the tailgunner nest sums up the whole movie.

Eric Stolz is his usual solid character and I'll always be upset about his lack of recognition for "MASK".

Somebody must have restored or found restored about 9-11 B17's, because all the ground scenes and foreground flying scenes are not CGI....

The whole story is a taut, relentless, conveyer-belt of an adventure, and it is amazing that young men actually did that duty.

Lastly, Matthew Modine is great in this, as he was in Full Metal Jacket...and his "Because I said so", and "I'm in Command" assertations truly bring the -This aint no picnic, but it has to be done - thoughts to the viewer in stark pronouncements.

The "Locker Scene" where the enlisted men go through a killed comrade's locker to get all the "embarrassing" stuff out before it is sent to his folks reminds me of the "Man Show" bit "Rest Assured".

Good movie..one of those where it is tough to switch the channel if you happen upon it.
