I hear that she left scientology (I refuse to capitalize it) since, though. Unfortunately, that would only be good for her and doesn't do any good to Tom.
Scientology being made into some frightening evil thing in this day and age...it's ridiculous. I was watching ET's coverage and it was absurd, as if Katie was held hostage, as if this was the Middle Ages and Kate was some virgin held against her will because she was regarded as an "unclean spirit" and was about to exorcised. Scientology (whatever it is, religion, cult, philosophy) can not be as bad as it is being portrayed by the media, I'm sure. Hollywood seems strangely hostile to Scientology. There are all kinds of "strange" religions, cults, philosophies (and let's not forget the crazy and colorful people that make up the Hollywood), and I assume the main reason they're going after Scientology is that it's slowly gaining power and influence.

Many people have strange religions and beliefs. Tom Cruise is not the only famous person that is into Scientology. Yet he gets the most hatred for it. Hatred for what really? Sounds more like a case of hating and prejudging something because it's beyond the understanding of many.
But it also does sound like Scientology is a major reason for the divorce. Katie could probably withstand it with Tom, but not with her daughter to get into it.

It's certainly possible. I think they're both quite committed to their religious beliefs. And of course, adding to the equation the raising of a child and deciding between the two religions and it seems it could be problematic if neither compromises.

Good point..aside from Tom Cruise, there is John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Lisa Maria Presley who are members of this sect and they don't get nearly half of the vitriol that Tom Cruise constantly recieves from the media within a town that is pretty "out there" to begin with without bringing Mr. Cruise's faith into it.
Despite the harsh criticism it recieves Scientology seems to work for those who are members..particularly for the Travoltas who had to deal with the recent loss of thier son amid a flurry of speculation and media glare.
But it's not just Scientology..whatever one wants to call it a cult or a true sect..there is a backlash against all forms of Religion and that in itself a worriesome thing.
