Alien and Aliens.
Alien was a devastatingly dark and beautiful sci-fi film. Excellent pacing, good characters, great sense of atmosphere. Much like Ridley Scott's other sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, this film has a subtlety to it that makes it work incredibly well. Let's not forget H.R. Giger's legendary creature design and set design. Alien Grade: A+
Aliens was fun, but pretty much what you'd expect from a James Cameron film. Lots of military people running around with guns, the creatures showing up very early on (no buildup like the first film), incredibly laughable dialogue (game over, man!) and the film runs about half an hour too long. It's a watchable film to be sure. Just, IMO, not as good as the first. All that being said, the battle with "mother" at the end was pretty damn incredible.
Aliens Grade: B
Sort of curious about Aliens3 and Resurrection. Will probably cue those up next.

Maybe it's because I'm a visual person but this one was way better than the first 2.
the first one was mostly boring, not much seem to happen. I was like "ok... is something going to happen?" . Calling it a classic just seems wrong. Maybe a classic in the sense that it broke some new ground or something. But boring.
The second one was riddled with horribly cliche and annoying characters. So much so I turned it off. Bill Paxton..most annoying role he's ever done and one of the most annoying ever.
This one, although remastered held up over the 20 years since its inception. I am a David Fincher fan and I hoped that even in his younger years he still had an eye for visuals and how he shot his scenes. And he delivered. I also liked that this one although it had some slow parts wasn't nearly as boring as the first. And I liked that none of the characters annoyed me so much I wanted to kill myself.
my only problem with Aliens 3 is the audio. In scenes where there are echos(most of the scenes before the Xenomorph pops up) it is incredibly hard to hear the dialogue. I even turned to my brother and said "this audio is really pissing me off"
I don't care that alien is "classic" and that the other half of people liked the second one more. I liked this one the most and it appealed to me far more. I dug it. Also see the alien much more.
Grade:B+
Thanks, Jared! I'm fairly pumped to see this one now.
I've read positive reviews of the workprint version of A3 elsewhere too. Glad that it lives up to its reputation and that it's not a mere curiosity like the Blade Runner workprint.
I think the main problems with this film when released were A) the studio released their own cut of the film. That cut has since been disowned by Fincher. B) The bleak change in tone from the first two films.
Most audiences hate when a film that doesn't have a happy ending. The same fate befell Gilliam's Brazil.

it's good stuff I think you'll like it. It would have been cool to see them run around the world you see in the beginning instead of just the prison though. The world looks like it could have some good dark/wet/crazy adventure on it.

Dark Shadows, I just learned last week that a friend of mine is a brother in law to Chloe Moretz's aunt and Chloe's mother is from my home town. It'll be a while before Chloe makes her debut here at SP. Cool flick, weird n wacky.

Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Finally got around to watching this. Ok movie, but nowhere near as good as the first 3. Needless to say I will NOT be adding this one to my collection.

I know what I'll be watching that tonight.
Oh man! I hate when the film entices you with a world like that and turns the movie into a bottle episode instead.
