Just wondering, can people be good for the sake of being a good person? Or how many people just act good for some sort of future vindication? Such as a good after-life, a positive "kharma" payback, or a "you owe me one" factor?

Humans are basically a bunch of particularly vicious animals which have done great damage to themselves and the rest of the biosphere. They have never done anything that wasn't ultimately motivated by self-interest, even though sometimes it appeared otherwise. Fortunately they will soon be extinct and the planet will get a chance to recover. In a few million years biodiversity will return to normal and there will be an interesting layer of rock containing some fossils, and containing a distinctive chemical signature, which will be the only sign that humans ever existed on earth. Other remnants of humanity will persist on the earth's moon and on and orbiting the other planets of the Sol system along with a few interstellar traveling objects which will probably never be found by any other beings.

You speak as if you aren't a part of the species. In fact, it sounds like you are looking forward to the end. Do yourself a favor and get laid first. It might be against your Gaia religion, but consider having some kids. No point in living out your short remaining time being a self-loather and bitching and moaning about the Evil Empire of Monkeys. You won't be around to say "I told you so", so at least go get some head. Pay for it even, I don't judge. Neither do prostitutes. You'll feel better about your station in your assumed collective guilt. Otherwise, pick a hole in yours and stick a gun in it. Your piety is not new, or unique, so do the world and me a favor and practice, preacher. Stop being boring. Start showing your commitment.
