NBC Ending "30 Rock," "Community" and "Parks & Recreation" Submitted by Zach Lisabeth on May 8, 2012
Start preparing yourself for life without Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson and whoever's in "Community."
The struggling Peacock network is taking a new direction with its primetime lineup, and that means cleaning house. Until this week, the once-dominant network had been suspiciously mum on its plans for next season. That all changed with a giant info dump from NBC execs which included the fates of veteran sitcoms “30 Rock,” “Community” and “Parks and Recreation.”
All three critical darlings will be given abbreviated “send off” seasons followed by immediate termination. Despite receiving generally favorable reviews, NBC’s long-running Thursday comedy lineup has never garnered stellar ratings. The limited order of 13 episodes for each show must have seen like a good compromise solution for the network that has seen itself slide from first to fourth place over the last decade.
The Peacock plans to add several new sitcoms to its roster to replace the old guard. A network spokesperson confirmed that Matthew Perry’s “Go On,” Anne Heche’s “Save Me,” Ryan Murphy’s “The New Normal,” Bill Pullman’s “1600 Penn” and Justin Kirk’s “Animal practice have all been picked up by NBC. Only time will tell which pilots actually earn a spot on the mid-season schedule.

I'm surprised about 30 Rock. That seemed to be a strong anchor in their line-up.

I've seen the first two seasons of community great stuff, surprised about the others thought they were well-received, had good enough viewership.
I guess everybody [idiots] still watch Big Bang which lost me when they got that stupid big-nosed Amy Farafouler character.

Now Alison Brie can get a premium cable/satellite channel show where she can be funny and naked...

30 Rock shouldn't be that big of a surprise . . even Tina was indicating next season would likely be its last, with everyone's contracts ending . . just means nine less episodes and finishing in December rather than next May. Seven seasons (or 6 1/2) is a good long run.

Alas, "Community Chat" will no longer have a namesake under which to have its banner fall. I for one will not be crying any tears or spilling any milk. I haven't watched anything in NBC's primetime lineup for years, and none of these shows were inspiring me to change that.
I'm glad at least that the network senses its malaise and wants to do something about it. Matthew Perry and Anne Heche probably aren't exactly the freshest names in Hollywood on which to bank, but then again, Teri Hatcher and the other "Desperate Housewives" weren't going anywhere fast (except maybe Eva Longoria) until that show came along. Now they're ending a hugely successful eight-season run on Sunday, and I'm going to be genuinely sad they're gone. So, I at least can understand the emotional connection many users here feel to these NBC shows.
C'est la vie. I bid thee adieu, NBC's Thursday lineup.

it's been getting weaker ratings than community and parks lately.
Shows you how much I pay attention to NBC

How is the Office not included in this? That should've ended with Steve Carell's departure. Otherwise it looks like NBC has lost hope in the documentary comedy no-studio-audience style?

My friend said the office is getting an ninth? I believe and final season and a spin-off of Dwight's farm, I agree it was certainly weaker without Carell.

It was pointed out on another board that that article is from two days ago, and no one else has reported on the cancellations. Maybe the "news" website I've never hear of with a photo gallery of "hottest women in prison" got the scoop on every major news organization, but I think I'll hold off just a bit before I storm NBC headquarters with a torch and pitchfork.
I'm still enjoying The Office, but that could just be because of Ellie Kemper. Just a few weeks ago I realized how much I miss the Michael and Dwight interactions. Plus they made Andy a little too sad to watch this season. But, Ellie was in a swimsuit this season, so I'm glad they didn't stop when Steve left.
Fox picked up Mindy Kaling's show, so she won't back if there is a ninth season. I read BJ Novak might also leave to work on that show. Now I'm going to miss Erin and Kelly in the webisodes. I wish they had more interaction on the actual show.
And I just started watching Community when they made this recent return. I guess I can be happy about having all the earlier episodes to watch.

Don't forget to try to catch Ellie in 21 jump street, I believe when I watched it there's a part where she bends over at her teachers desk to get Channing to check her ass out.

Sorry to disappoint you but NBC RENEWED Community and gave 30 Rock a final 13 Episode season.
Exactly. The news here is that these three shows were renewed, but whoever wrote the article turned it into a cancellation prediction. We won't know that for sure until after next season.
That being said, NBC's Thursday night line-up is pretty much the best thing on network television right now. 30 Rock and The Office have been on long enough that finishing them would be reasonable, but Community and Parks and Rec are still young and shouldn't go anywhere.

i saw that joel and alison both tweeted that community is coming back for a 4th season .so i hope nbc sees how good the show is and p&r too and keeps them around for a few more years.
Cancel 30 Rock instead. I love Tina Fey but really don't like that show. Doesn't help that I can't stand Morgan either. But I've given that show a try, several occasions, just can't get into it, find myself laughing only 5% of the time. I have no idea why it's gotten so many awards.

That's a loaded comment but I'd like to address it, Juicy.
First of all, 30 Rock doesn't really need to be canceled because that one actually has confirmed that it's ending after next season. Not out of cancellation, but just because it's time. Next season will be its seventh, which is around the average lifespan of a TV series anyway.
On the show's likability, I can understand both sides of the argument. 30 Rock is very largely based on jokes, meaning its characters and storylines aren't really as fleshed out as other shows. It's more like a cartoon in that sense - the characters are nearly one-dimensional and the jokes come more from what they do and say then from who they are. This means that if it's not your type of humor, there is no reason to watch this show. However, if it is your type of humor, it's a hilarious delight because it's just constant jokes and doesn't get too bogged down with emotional drama or whatever. I find it really funny in a smart way (or sometimes an overly ridiculous way that isn't smart at all but still hilarious), but that's just my opinion.
As for awards, that doesn't even have much to do with the show itself. Award shows are a sham. The Golden Globe voters can be bribed and do inexplicable things like nominate dramas in their comedy categories. The Emmy voters barely even watch TV, and their nomination process involves choosing names and titles from a list and then, AFTER choosing their nominees, watching one isolated episode from the shows they nominated and trying to pick a winner based on the tiny amount they've seen. Which means, out of laziness, they usually just nominate the same stuff they did the previous year. That's not to say all award winners are undeserving, but it explains why perplexing nominations happen.
Ridiculous, but true.

Community is moving to Fridays at 8:30 next season, because NBC wanted to keep Up All Night on Thursdays.
