Thief

Son of a bitch, this is a god damn movie. A lot of people say Raging Bull is the last movie of the 70s, first movie of the 80s. I think Thief is the first movie of the 80s, last of the 70s. It has the feel and look of the 80s, but with a ton of 70s movie style. And it was fantastic. There were so many great scenes and shots. The whole opening was so good. The zoom into the lock that was an actual real zoom into a real lock was cool as fuck. I had never even heard of this until recently when people were talking about how this movie Thief did Drive much better back in 1981.

And I loved this. It was pretty much perfect. Even Jim Belushi was good in it. Everyone was good. Jimmy Caan is a guy I've never figured out. How his career never really took off the way it seemed like it would. He obviously wasn't Pacino's level of actor, but he was for sure leading man/action star material after The Godfather. But he's just as good here as he was as Sonny, probably better. Tuesday Weld was such a beautiful woman. I usually don't even care for the petite blond type, but she was radiant. I'm smitten with that grandma now. Has she kept it together at all?

And that was Michael Mann's debut film? Holy shit. Has anyone made that good and polished of a film in their first attempt? That was top, top level directing, cinematography, interesting editing. This is a great movie and you should see it if you haven't. It's on Netflix. The end with Caan being a god damn man and tying up the lose ends with the best possible Pink Floyd knock off playing over it was excellent.

The wife and I went to see this yesterday. We have seen every episode of the original Dark Shadows, and we both LOVED it. Just watch the trailers first, and don't expect a remake. The trailers tell you it's a spoof.

Killer elite

Run of the mill. Unoriginal and uninspired. I've already forgotten about it.

I seem to have an affinity for Aussie made films. I never dislike them. So I guess Australia produces not only hot women, awesome accents, kick ass kangaroos , but also great movies.

This movie is weird. I like weird. I think people will either like it or hate it, get it or be like huh?

I LOVED IT!!!!!!!

This is the most endearing film I've seen in a long time. It's a wonderful little love story.

Ryan Kwanten seems to have a innocent charm about him. And Maeve Dermody has the same. She also looks like she could be Emily Blunt's sister.

I loved the way this film was shot, the tone, the pacing, the acting, the soundtrack. I can't say enough.

Grade:A

listen to this. If you like it you'll enjoy the movie giggle

Marvel's The Avengers
Notice how they stuck "Marvel's" in the title so we wouldn't forget where it came from?

As someone who has read the comics and worked in a comic shop in the mid-1970s, I swore off comic book adaptation flicks with the first X-Men movie. I simply don't like the way Hollywood too often changes character backstories, and in the case of a superhero ensemble, sometimes teams up characters who never appeared in the comics together. Hollywood thinks it knows best, despite the fact there are some damned good comic book writers out there.

So, I had to see The Avengers because it was getting so much hype, and because it was scripted and directed by the great Joss Whedon, who I still respect all the way back to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV series).

I was not disappointed! In fact, this movie exceeded my expectations. Please let Joss do the next one!

It helps a few bits in the flick if you've seen other Marvel movies (which I mostly haven't), and/or read the comics. But it's not necessary.

(500) Days of Summer
I'm a huge Zooey fan, but I had this DVD for at least a year before I opened it up. She can make some horrible choices for movies to do, but I don't think this is one of them. Yeah this is another stupid romance comedy, but it worked for me.

For me Zooey is always cute, especially in her Siri TV ad. She's cute in this movie and does some neat eye movements. You can't have eyes that big and blue without making use of them somehow.

The added/extended scenes do help flesh out the movie as long as you remember what the original ones were.

With only about 3 scenes, Chloë Grace Moretz almost steals this film. She's quite a talent.

Dragonslayer
On Amazon Prime. I've seen it at least a handful of times. So what? I saw it again. One of the best dragon and sorcerer movies I've ever seen.

The Hunger Games
#1 at the box office until The Avengers came along. At this point it is tailing off and there were only two dozen people in the theater, which had a smaller seating capacity than probably any of the others in the local AMC complex.

No surprises in the plot because you knew Katniss wasn't going to die in the games. The surprise was who else survives. Lots of heart-tugging moments during the game. Yeah, I was affected by them even though I'm a guy -- so what?

Jennifer Lawrence is visually captivating in this film, and does some great acting with facial expressions when she doesn't have any lines to speak. She's probably going to win an Oscar some time -- of course she's already been nominated for Winter's Bone. Was that a hot red dress she wore to the Oscars, or what?

Fantastic and very passionate review, man. high5

Thief is a great film. Really wish that the folks at the Criterion Collection would get a proper version of this out on blu-ray.

And Tuesday is definitely lovely. nod

Best worst movie

the description made it seem like it was a movie about how filmmakers don't go out of their way to make a bad movie but it happens, and how does it happen?
sounds interesting right?

what it ended up being about was the worst movie ever(troll 2) and how it's got a huge cult following for being so bad it's good..

it was blah.

The Raid: Redemption - makes The Expendables look like a Care Bears movie. (or something like that)
