I don't want to drag this out into an argument (since I know you dislike Kaidan) but how is Kaidan useless? His damage output is lower than Ashley, sure, but that's because he is power focused. Reave is gold, overload is one of my fav powers in the game and cryo blast is handy if a bit situational. He is basically Miranda but with better survivability due to barrier. He also wields an AR which gives him better weapon damage than most other power based squadmates.
Boring does not equal useless.

He is no anywhere near Miranda level. Miranda is 100x more powerful than Kaidan will ever be. Miranda would biotic slam him & than toss him across the battlefield.
If you enjoy using him in combat than use him. With the Classes I play he is completely useless to me unlike the other Squad Mates.
Lol as long as Kaidan didn't see her first and reave/cryo + AR her unprotected ass. Didn't you play adept or vanguard in your first playthroughs? I would have thought overload and reave would compliment your biotics nicely! Shield stripping plus a primer for detonations.
Miranda was my fav squaddie in me3 but mainly due to squad bonuses and overload. I didn't actually find her biotics nearly as useful as they seemed in her cutscenes. Samara was my biotic demon.
Guess that's the beauty of having so many character options... I will def do an Ashley playthrough next since I want to play as a caster.
Miranda has survive a Suicide Mission and a Fight Against Kai Leng, a Fight against Kaidan would be a joke to her. Oriana could beat Kaidan as well.
I played Engineer and Adept. I use Dark Channel for my Adept. Kaidan has no Detonator for that power. He also has no Detonator for 98% any of Engineer powers however the other Squad members do including Ashley.
Miranda Biotics were unstoppable in ME2, One warp and she killed any target(as long as they had no protection).

I big fangirl of mass effect 3 Andrea Renee had no problem with the ending. Listen to weekend confirmed episode 105.

There are so many holes in your Miranda vs Kaidan theory that I'm not going to bother addressing them. Anyway, I am a huge Miranda fan and I am perfectly happy to concede that she may well be too powerful for Kaidan in a fight. Hell I'd be betting on her!
My point was simply that, as a general rule, kaidan's powers aren't useless. He is also the closest thing to having Miranda as a squaddie in me3, even if he isn't quite as good.

I have never considered him useless I know most people did not save him in mass effect 1 as they felt he was boring I saved him in some of my games I like the guy I do
I do think the me2 squad as a whole are more powerful then the me1 squad just because they had to be for the mission they had planned
