I did end the quote before that line, considering the current state of affairs. You know your MP

Oh? I see we have another piece of shit socialist that likes telling us how we should conduct our business. We don't tell you how to run your country.
No need for any of that. I don't think he was saying "I think America is a shit country", although it wouldn't take much to see it implied. I do think the most important issue is seeing healthcare as a business. The minute you attach a profit motive to any necessity, it becomes corrupted. Socialize any necessity, particularly at any governmental level above household, and it becomes corrupted. I won't define the term most use for the amalgam of government and business that we have coming with Obamacare, but I'd argue it's twice as bad. So: Necessity, 'business' run = bad. Necessity, government run = bad. Necessity, government+corporate run = very bad. So far as I can see, and judging by the points raised on this thread, those are what you all see as the options.
Suffice it to say, I think we need to have a serious discussion about the power structures in the United States. Corporate AND Government charters.

Don't mean to put words in your mouth, though, Feral.
Not at all. That is what I meant, to a degree. And for the record, if you are alive, you are taking a risk; first aid is an invaluable skill set. Reminds me of Heinlein: "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."
Apologies.
I understand, but for the record, Tex was all surprised that you should say that about doctors, I guess he had major surgery in mind when he said what he said.
Though apart from unlikely occurrences, if you take care of your body, you shouldn't ever need major surgery.

I'm not telling you how to run your country, please yourselves. I'm telling you how civilised countries view your vicious and elitist healthcare system.
By the way, don't be personal. And I'm not a socialist.

Yeah, you are telling by virtue of what you said. If a majority of people in this country don't want gov't run health care, then that's that.
Calling my country a "shit country" because you don't like a policy is bullshit. I can take a lot of garbage from those I disagree but I draw the line on that. I don't criticize Europe for having universal care or super high taxes. It's their land. Those people apparently like it because they vote in people who put that stuff in lace.
Btw, if you would do some studying on our system, you'd find some pretty insane stuff as to why health care is so expensive here. And it ain't the robber barons doing it.

Speak to some of the tens of thousands of Americans with congenital diseases, and/or to their parents, and then say that again, you moron.
Call me devil's advocate here, but wouldn't "tens of thousands of Americans" rightfully be considered "unlikely occurrences?" I don't think luce was intentionally being insensitive. Guess it just depends what percentage is the line in the sand as to what can be deemed "unlikely."
