No Subway $5 Footlongs In SF, 'Cost of Doing Business' Too High

Chris Roberts
NBCBayArea.com
Thursday, Mar 29, 2012

The catchy Subway sandwich shop jingle involving a variety of foot-long sandwiches available for $5 doesn't apply in San Francisco.

The sandwich-making chain stopped selling the five-dollar footlongs in San Francisco due to the "high cost of doing business," according to SF Weekly.

Signs posted at Subway sandwich shops sadly inform San Francisco patrons -- we hear Willie Brown is a big fan -- that "all SUBWAY Restaurants in SF County DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN Subway National $5.00 Promotions," according to the newspaper.

Customers can still buy the sub of the month for $5, according to an employee at Subway on Market and Castro streets.

Apparently, the city's new minimum wage, raised to $10.24 as of Jan. 1, make $5 footlongs an impossible business model.

Unless you want tuna fish, which is the sub of the month. Yum.

I'm so very glad you qualified this post with words like "Subway" and "sandwiches"...from what I hear, in SF there are plenty of folks willing to give you a foot-long for nothing at all. sting

Actually, as a percentage of state population, you're about as likely to find someone willing to do you for free in Minnesota as you are in CA.

that is so retarded. They are still $5 in NYC. And NYC has the highest rental rates. Though you wont find McDonalds dollar menus except for stuff like applepies.

City-wise, San Francisco is the gayest.

Rank City "Percentage of City Population" "GLB Population" "population rank"
1 San Francisco 15.4% 94,234 4
2 Seattle 12.9% 57,993 9
3 Atlanta 12.8% 39,805 12
4 Minneapolis 12.5% 34,295 16
5 Boston 12.3% 50,540 10
6 Sacramento 9.8% 32,108 20
7 Portland 8.8% 35,413 14
8 Denver 8.2% 33,698 17
9 Washington 8.1% 32,599 18
10 Orlando 7.7% 12,508 36

Although I'm surprised Miami isn't listed.

And those studies do not take into account people simply lying or unsure of their sexuality.
Meaning...whole lot more gay.

It is...under the 'consolidated metro area' chart. There it tops the Bay area by 25%.
