Anyone know what I can use to download Ustream video. Google gave me a couple of ideas which did not work very well.

Man, this bugged me, so I have been trying to download something from Ustream for 2 hours now I finally found a method but it is kind of complicated and I don't know if it works on every video. You will have to capture your network traffic with Wireshark and pick out the relevant pieces of the handshake. Then you have to supply this information to rtmpdump (command line tool) to download the stream.

Here's how it worked for me:

• Run Wireshark and start capturing.
• Open the Ustream video in your browser.
• Once it started playing, stop capturing.
• Apply filter "rtmpt".
• Find and select the second "Handshake C2" packet.
• Expand all packet details in the middle window (by right click).
• Look for the swfurl and tcurl properties.
• Note the relevant information highlighted in the screenshot below.
• Find the packet containing the play() command to get the last piece of information

This screenshot shows all the information needed by rtmpdump:



Build your rtmpdump command (-o specifies your output file and -v indicates that it is a live stream):



Now it should start downloading. Hit Ctrl+C to stop.

Actually tried and got farther than I thought I would. But once I applied the filter, there was nothing.

Install the toolbar and it allows fast and easy downloads.

The method I explained above doesn't work here since it is not a live stream.

Also with Wireshark Hit Ctrl+F and look for ".flv", then hit Ctrl+N until you find a "GET" packet containing the full path to the flv file.
Take that path, put the server's ip address in front of it and BAM

It would appear that the DownloadHelper Firefox Addon can also get this one.
