Still violence goes against what Jesus said. Organized religion is hypocritical at best, a fraud and false representation of true Christianity at worst.

The famous "sword verse" Matthew 10:34 talks about interpersonal and family relationships not about countries going to war against each other.

Particularly now because there are so many "Prosperity preachers" and Televangelists around now.

If Jesus was on Earth right now they would be first people he would criticize followed by other Christian groups.

I find it interesting in the book that the only time he really gets violent is when he tosses the money changers.
We sure could use us some of that right about now.

How about "Have humans ever overcome hunger in their stomachs?"
War is about resources, be it natural or human. What we like to call hatred is really just ignorance and anger, things necessary to the State to beat drums and make it feel okay for its groups of people to kill other groups of people for things they lack. Organized religion has been an excellent catalyst and podium, another vehicle to drive that ignorance and anger.
Still works wonders.

Human nature is what fuels the miseries of the world we have today.

Unless we overcome our carnal and selfish natures nothing will improve.

Yet it speaks from the dust especially for our times. The prophets foretold the calamities that will come if we as a modern society completely turn our backs from God.

The family for example, the basic unit of society is being attacked as never before...children do not love and honor thier parents and parents shift thier responsibilities to guide thier children in a loving but firm way.They either neglect them or they over induldge them.

Secularists and atheists tell us we don't need God to guide us for anything we are our own dieties...least of all how to raise kids so we place faith in child psychologists, school councillors and big goverment that surely know better than the parents..what is ailing Suzy or why Johnny can't read..and one wonders why there are so many kids with bahavioral problems these days.

It is quite clear to me that that our society is slowly crumbling because we have lowered our moral standards..crime, violence, corruption, cheating, dishonesty and sexual perversion of all types and so much more are all on the rise..because society has chosen to turn its back on God.

And like the nations of the ancient world which rose and fell under the weight of its own decay so shall the modern nations of our day will fall if we do not learn from history.

Can anyone prove this?

But I'm old enough to see a changing attitude in moral standards in the last 40 odd years.. in the media, films, television that is progressively pushing the envelope of ethical and moral decency. I have also seen the rising divorce rates..the number of teen pregnancies, parent neglect, child abuse and juvenile delinquency just to give a few examples that are on the rise since I have been around.The family is being attacked as never before as it is in our days...

I have seen more and more corruption in those who are in authority those who are supposed to lead our communities even our nations... those whom we look up to as heros like sports figures,we read almost on a daily basis the cheating, dishonesty etc...we often excuse immoral behavior of athletes, celebs, rock stars and even certain politicians we even admire them for thier devil may care and reckless lifestyles...and yet you can go on the internet and find so many people slandering and verbally attacking people such as Tim Tebow or the Duggar family for thier conservative and religious beliefs which btw..they don't impose on others....the moral human integrity is certainly eroding..Evil seen as good and good is seen as evil...as it did so many times before which led to the downfall of past civilizations.

Cornball may be a lot of things that I don't embrace about him as a christian especially his views on racial equality..but he did recognize as many believers do...some of the signs of our society breaking down slowly but surely coming to pass if we do not get our act together.

If we don't heed history then we are doomed to repeat it.

We live in a time where teens (and everyone else) are doing fewer disgusting horrible acts to each other (per capita) than ever before. We just hear about them a lot more. Hell, if you think high school in the '50s was all malt shops and sock hops, check out Rebel Without a Cause or read about the gang fights that were generally a fact of life.

You might read The Better Angels of Our Nature, which outlines how human existence in the Western world has been getting more or less progressively LESS violent with time.

Never forget that people have been playing the "I weep for where we're headed" card since ancient Greece.
