I think it's crazy that Daniel Bryan said on his NXT that his goal is to headline Wrestlemania, and that he's now wrestling on it with the Worlds Heavyweight Title just 2 years later. He may not be technically headlining, but I think it's just fucking awesome.

Dude starts in the company in 2010 on a shitty game show where he loses to everyone, gets fired and misses out on the Nexus Angle, gets rehired and beats The Miz for the US title, does jackshit hanging out with the Bellas, comes to Smackdown where he's putting over Sin Cara, wins Money In the Bank, loses to some more people, and some how becomes Worlds Champion and one of the best Heels in the company. What a strange / awesome 2 years.

Sure, the road from Daniel Bryan NXT Rookie to Daniel Bryan Vegan Worlds Heavyweight Champion could have been a lot better, and they could have possibly had him in an even better spot than he is now. And the same can be said for Sheamus WWE Champion to Sheamus KotR to Sheamus Royal Rumble Winner. BUT the one thing to remember is that the best wrestlers figure it out and make it happen. Everyone knows Daniel Bryan is one of the best in the world. And I knew deep down he'd truly be able to overcome the Michael Cole burials and shitty entrance music and shitty stories. Because he's too good not to. The good ones make it work.

I would say they will go with someone younger so fit the whole scheme of things.

Everytime someone says they are the best in the world at wrestling my mind says Kurt Angle,AJ Styles could argue that for years to come.

Haven't done one of these in a while, so I've decide to bring it back. . .

Suburban Commando* Appreciation Post!
*Yes, I know it's a film, but it has a wrestler in it so


I first watched this in 1991, from the video man. My Dad told me he was talking to him in the pub and he'd said "tell your Steven, I've got that new Hulk Hogan film in if he wants to watch it". I have to say that when watched it with my best mate, it really was only because it had Hogan in it. It being funny or a good film was completely secondary to this fact. But then something happened. I laughed a lot. And found myself enjoying it immensely. So we rented it out again next weekend and it was just as good.

I own this on big boxed VHS, pirated VHS, in a double VHS with Mr. Nanny and on DVD. I've got a shitload of copies of this.

Funny. Good. Rewards repeated viewings. Hmm. I don't think there was any way I was expecting that even when I was only 15 and was yet to discover Kieslowski and Fellini. But the signs should have been there. In Shelley Duvall and Christopher Lloyd, you have two accomplished actors, one of them majoring in comedy, providing Hogan with the thespian back-up he needs. The superb comedy actor Larry Miller (from the Seinfeld episode The Doorman) gets many of the biggest laughs.

And it's all helmed by Burt Kennedy, a long time director who, for the early part of his career, dealt with B-movie Westerns before in the mid-60s to early 70s he started working with the likes of John Wayne and James Garner on cracking Westerns like Support Your Local Gunfighter, Hannie Caulder and The Train Robbers. That said, he had never done much comedy, but with the last major film of his career, he makes the transition smoothly and unexpectedly well.

But then there's Mr Hogan himself. With one-liners delivered expertly, combat and slapstick scenes obviously easily negotiated, and charisma there in abundance, he does about as well as you could possibly have asked for. He looks and acts a genuine movie star here - and he could have been an even bigger one if he wanted.


Shep Ramsey:


Hulk Hogan as Shep Ramsey is probably the best way to cast him. Big fucker, with no clue of how the human race works. Hogan was at his very peak during this time period. He was still the biggest draw in the United States and he could still command a movie role where the cast weren't scraps from shit soaps and old films. Its the only Hulk Hogan film on IMDB where most of the cast have photos to accompany their filmographies. Shep is an space warrior, who's work has become sloppy and he has been adviced to take a few weeks off and to just chill for a bit. Even though Shep disagrees that his level of workrate has slipped in 1990, he takes some time off anyway. Upon his arrival on earth, he takes an obvious dislike to it. Earth is just to safe and boring for him. Hogan picked a good part here. He just lets the film work around him. The cast is so strong that he only needs to be himself. He even kept the tashe on in the movie.


Charlie Wilcox:


Definitely Christopher Lloyd's finest hour. Wilcox is a walkover who meets a bigger, cooler and more heroic man in he form of Shep Ramsey and their rollerocaster relationship ends with them shaking hands and Charlie killing the General Suitor, to the sound of his kids saying "Dad, your the greatest". Only Hulk Hogan can make Doc Brown play the straight man. What makes him even better in the role is that he has a look on his face constantly as if to say "oh, bollocks". He plays it like he expects something to go wrong.


Jenny Wilcox:


Fresh off Popeye, Shelley Duvall isn't that far removed from Olive character in this film. He's plays an over the top pain in the arse, who wears the trousers in the family and has so little confidence that Charlie can ask his boss for an extra few quid that she just turns the garage into a spare room without telling him. Its Shelley Duvall, though. She's always great.


The Undertaker and a man who looks like the Undertaker:


The big man's debut on the silver screen. Unlike the Rock or Steve Austin and admittedly, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker was a seasoned thespian before he made his famous debut at Survivor Series 1990. His mate was rumoured to have been played by Crush, but the role was instead given to Tony Longo.


General Suitor:


You had the Predator rip-off, but it was more of a knowing wink that pure theft. When he's not suited up in his alien outfit, Suitor is camp as Christmas. Never saw him in anything else, but Suitor is a right giggle. I've checked his IMDB, I've seen fuck all else he's been in. He hasnt even got an wikipedia page. He wasnt in the film much at all, usually allowing the Undertaker and his mate to do his dirty work. But he showed enough for me to want to see more of him.


Adrian Beltz:


Larry Miller's fucking great in this. He plays the smarmy boss in two of my favourite films. This and the Nutty Professor. He's one of those actors you've seen in loads of films. The way he keeps that grin on his face in every film I've ever seen him in, just cracks me up. He's in this film a lot surprisingly, always popping up with a bit of faux life coaching, to get him employees to do all the work for him as he takes the credit.


Margie:


Shep even got pussy in this film. Her name is Jo Anne Dearing, and her IMDB is suspect to say the least. She hasnt been seen in years, so one can only assume life imitated art and she just disappeared off the earth. I always liked her part in this, though. She was the only one in the movie not overcome by Shep's size and star power, and her lack of fear seemed to be an attractive quality because she ended up in the back of his ship by the end of it.

Did it have shit on the market? Not enough, but it kept its hand in. It had a game out on a few consoles of the period, but there should have been figures, t-shirts and all sorts.

I would never say AJ and Angle is burning himself out so fast and is a shell of his former self. To me the best wrestler has the total pakage, and while AJ can wrestle and be a spot monkey, (which to me, ruins any credit of being an actual wrestler), he is piss poor on the microphone.

Angle is still very good, but his body can barely go, yet he doesn't accept that, so he tries to still do the same shit, and it just isn't that good, and well it's boring and it looks bad. Jericho as he got older, and heavier at least adapted to the changed. Punk and Bryan adapted to an extent as well.

I have no major problem with Kurt these days (like I have these past 5-6 years), I'm mostly indifferent to him and he's just sort of 'there' with me, but his matches with JJ last year were fucking awesome, and I credit most of that to Dos Js. The Kurt / Jarret feud back in 2008(?) was really fucking great too actually. These guys should feud more.




For me right now, in TNA anyways, the total package (ability, promos, look, charisma, etc) is easily Bully Ray. He was totally re-born in a way I never thought possible at this stage of his career. He's in the best shape of his life, His interviews are brilliant and he knows his character. I fucking hate him, because he's the best heel in wrestling, and he had the 2nd best match in TNA last year (LMS vs. Styles).

I'd love to see him win the TNA title and see what he could do with it, would certainly be interesting finding out if he could carry the ball at the top rather than at the moment be the nearly man.

Jeff Jarrett, from his return after Jill's death up until he fucked off to India, was also in this catagory.
