The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World. Daniel Yergen.
This author also wrote the Pulitzer winning The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, And Power. Which is a must read for a background in the oil industry.
Haven't got too deep into The Quest yet. It starts with the modern oil industry and the huge changes in the international markets with the breakup of the USSR and the first Iraq War.
