The very same reason they refuse to debate the Fair Tax, leftists love that our current income system can be wielded at will to punish the wealthy and are loath to surrender that power no matter how much better the Fair Tax would make life for all Americans.
It's a form of insanity and it really should be listed in the DSM IV.
