Prometheus is slated to be a Prequel to the movie Alien. The trailer looks like it could be a good movie...I think it is coming out in early June 2012.

Prometheus is been said to technically not be a prequel. It happens before Alien and takes place in the same continuity. However, the plot of the film has nothing if at all to do with the Xenomorph. I think Giger did work on some of the production design though.

Yes; there has been some mention about, is it, or isn't a prequell to Alien.

An interview on MTV with Ridley Scott just popped up today, following the Space Jockey mask images we reported on yesterday. In this interview, Ridley Scott finally gives in and mentions how Prometheus is in fact a prequel to Alien.
“I have to redesign the elements that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the face hugger…I don’t want to repeat it. The alien in a sense as a shape is worn out..maybe we’ll come up with something different. What we’re trying to do is squeeze in two prequels…if you explain who he was and where he came from then you want to find out where they came from and you might was to go to this place where his people come from. ” – Ridley Scott

Prometheus has the Space Jockey and the original derelict ship they found the xenomorphs on in Alien. A prequel it be.
It even shows as the chest-burster starts coming out.

LOL holy shit. Don't watch that if you haven't seen or intend to see the movie.
But seriously...watching it for me felt like watching Lost...an interesting and huge cop-out that left me pissed off with more questions than answers, and then...BOOM...over.
I haven't even watched the new vid clips, but just by reading the posts I have decided not to drop $8-$10 and just wait for NetFlix...

"Was originally conceived as a prequel to Ridley Scott's Alien, but Scott announced his decision to turn it into an original film with Noomi Rapace (who was already set to star) still in the cast as one of five main characters. Some time later it was confirmed that while the movie would take place in the same universe as Alien and greatly reference that movie, it would mostly be an original movie and not a direct prequel. "
