Prometheus is slated to be a Prequel to the movie Alien.
The trailer looks like it could be a good movie...I think it
is coming out in early June 2012.

Prometheus is been said to technically not be a prequel. It happens before Alien and takes place in the same continuity. However, the plot of the film has nothing if at all to do with the Xenomorph. I think Giger did work on some of the production design though.

An interview on MTV with Ridley Scott just popped up today, following the Space Jockey mask images we reported on yesterday. In this interview, Ridley Scott finally gives in and mentions how Prometheus is in fact a prequel to Alien.

“I have to redesign the elements that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the face hugger…I don’t want to repeat it. The alien in a sense as a shape is worn out..maybe we’ll come up with something different. What we’re trying to do is squeeze in two prequels…if you explain who he was and where he came from then you want to find out where they came from and you might was to go to this place where his people come from. ” – Ridley Scott

To be honest the xenomorph being engineered as a living weapon would make a lot of sense. Whether they go that route I don't know.

Well so does Ironman and Thor, but Thor isn't considered a sequel to Ironman.

Prometheus has the Space Jockey and the original derelict ship they found the xenomorphs on in Alien. A prequel it be.
