I never liked the UK version and didn't bother with the US version until it was well into it's run. But I like William H Macy and the characters he plays so eventually I gave in and found that I absolutely loved the show. Far superior to the UK version IMO.

I saw the UK original version after I watched the first US season. I think there are good and bad points for both. The worst thing about the UK version ... No Emmy Rossum! Second worst thing about the UK version ... No Wm H Macy!

I like the US version but the UK one (early series) is so far superior it's ridiculous. If Emmy wasn't getting nude all the time most people wouldn't give 2 shits about the show.

That's me being a nob. Vernon is Franks real name. I couldn't remember Davids name so i used google and got it wrong.
The UK Shameless is more shameless then the US one. David plays the drunk, druggy bad dad way better then William. He spent most of the first series sober for fucks sake.

Probably the way he was written for the US audiences ... An unwritten rule for tv writers in the USA is to not make unlikable characters too unlikable.
