Surprised that nobody has mentioned the Back To Karkand DLC yet.
Got it a few days ago and am now even more hooked on this game than I was before. I had BF2 on the PC and played it a lot but the maps still feel quite new to me. Might be because I haven't played BF2 for about 4 or 5 years though.
There are 10 new (old BF2) weapons to unlock. Takes a bit of grinding with certain other weapons to get them though

Hum? I own Back To Karkand because it is part of the BF3 Limited Edition, but the maps are not available yet. I think they're activated in a few days. How did you already play them? Or was the DLC released earlier for consoles??

PS3 had some kind of exclusivity deal that meant that we got it a week before anyone else.
The maps are great and the assignments that you have to pass to unlock the new guns keep things interesting and make you experiment with weapons that you probably wouldn't have used before (20 assault rifle underslung grenade launcher kills for example)

Started playing BF at the weekend after a break and i got back into it. My wepons are shit so hopefully this will help me out a bit.
Unfortunately those guns are shit too. Haven't tried the DAO but the SKS and Type 88 are horrible. Most sniper rifles in BF3 seem to take about 3 shots to kill someone. I used the SKS for a bit but ended up putting the MP7 submachine gun back into my Recon kit instead.
The Type 88 has far too much of a kick when you fire it so I just went back to the M249 even though I've unlocked everything for it
Some of the Back To Karkand guns unlock pretty quickly and the British Army SA80 (or L something as it's called in BF) is pretty good. That was the main gun I used in BF2 as well
