Sweet! Although it looks like a next-gen San Andreas (not original but not a bad thing either).

I've watched it a few times and it seems like the main character is the older man that you see a few times (driving a car, close up on the roof of a building and getting out of the drivers seat of the van with the armed gang).
I didn't like GTA4 that much mainly because the whole Liberty City thing had already been done a few times and I also didn't like Niko as a main character (I did like the 2 DLC's though).
I loved the original San Andreas though and this seems to be quite similar to it. Just hope that there's a DLC that lets you be in a Bloods/Crips style gang
I hated San Andreas, too much Sims for my liking, but this game looks great! I still would like to see another Vice City, or maybe a 90s era game.

some UK online retailers have it for pre-order with a release date sometime in February 2012. I'd personally say it will be closer to May/June though, just like GTA4, Red Dead Redemption & LA Noire
I read somewhere that Tommy Vercetti will return in this one. Vice City was set in 1986 (I think) and if GTA5 is present day that would make him be somewhere in his 50's. Kind of hope he isn't the main character

I'm surprised no one posted caps
I'm not sure, but I think I saw an older black character. Maybe an older CJ?

There's a black character sitting in a red sports car at the traffic lights watching a girl with short black hair cross the road. Later there's a car chase and the police are chasing a red sports car. You can pause it and clearly see that it's the same black character from earlier. Doesn't really look like CJ though

R* constantly reuses the same cities over and over for GTA Series. I doubt that's going to change anytime soon. GTA VI will most likely be in Vice City.

The Trailer looks nice, So did GTA IV Trailers, I Didn't really care for GTA IV that much.

I know. I've played and completed every single GTA game so far
From memory that would be:
GTA (PC/PS1) GTA: London 1969 (PS1) GTA 2 (PS1) GTA 3 (PS2) GTA Vice City (PS2/PC) GTA San Andreas (PS2) GTA Liberty City Stories (PSP/PS2) GTA Vice City Stories (PSP/PS2) GTA 4 (PS3) GTA Lost & Damned (PS3) GTA Ballad Of Gay Tony (PS3)

Hi everyone...
I'm getting excited by the prospect of GTA V coming next year - on the basis of one trailer... ...and all the hype from it!
I think Rockstar will have a little fun with us and give a vaguely circular map to play in, not the much-fun-poked-at square shape...
a key-
1 & 2 'endless' desert 3 'endless' ocean (a la GTA IV) 4 'endless' grassland/scrub
This would work in the same way as when you move away from the map in GTA IV - you 'travel' for 5 minutes in the 'wrong' direction, but if you do a 180 degree turn you return to the play area in, say, 30 seconds? This could also be be made more spicy by:
A Edwards Air Force Base / Dryden Flight Research Centre (jetpacks, anyone?) could enforce a no-fly / travel zone in the north of the map, and B Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base could control restricted land in the south east and supply a frigate to patrol the ocean...
Is the scale of this map possible by current console hardware? I'm sure Rockstar will do us proud by their map manipulation in any case. Whilst assembling this map (thankyou, google) I noticed some other things... a hunting area in Moreno Valley. several regional airports. 'El Mirage' Off-road vehicle recreation area. and many others! Let me know your feedback, forum people!

A vast square mileage is possible. I'm not sure to that extent. But "Just Cause 2" was huge, much more land area than any other sandbox game. However many of the towns and bases were very similar and couldn't offer the craziness and cheats of say GTA or Saints Row.
That being said, the map shown above would be ridiculous and too vast. There has to be stuff to do in most areas of the map as well as having many unique areas. There's no need for such an accurate map with alot of repetitive areas. Maybe make a San Andreas a size similar to the Just Cause 2 world. I really hope this game is much more than a Los Santos (Los Angeles) area. GTA San Andreas benefited alot by having fake Las Vegas, San Francisco, as well as desert and forest areas.
Also not sure how much any game can squeeze into 8gb of disc space. If R* were to commit to PS3 and PC only (no 360) then they can take advantage of more space (up to 50gb for blu-ray discs). But Xbox has a nasty no compete clause that limits PS3 games from using the extra PS3 space and other PS3 exclusive features if they want to sell that game for xbox. That's why most games look the same for both systems.

GRAND Theft Auto fans have something to get excited about following the release of a Gamescom 2012 trailer featuring a quick glimpse of GTA V. A promotional trailer for the gaming event which takes place in Germany every year features a two-second glimpse of the new instalment of the crime game.
The clip is something from the teaser trailer so hopefully we get a release date at the show in August.
