I agree. It was a terrible regression. The episode did absolutely nothing to bring the overall plot along or anything.
That's exactly it.
It seems like each episode was written by a different person, and they made no connection whatsoever!
For example, during the pilot episode, they refused to kill all 3 teens that got attacked while OTG, so they all ended up injured... Okay fine, but why keep them alive if you won't even mention them during the next episode!!? Makes no sense at all. How are we suppose to care for the characters after?
And next week looks even worse, a memory loss virus? Another déja vu.
It had so much potential, the idea was great, but the writers are awful!
Take a series like Prison Break, now THAT is quality writing. You care for the characters, even the "bad ones" and all episodes are related and important for the story.

Its simple they're too afraid of the show becoming too expensive and thus are cutting as many corners as possible. Look what happened to The Lost World tv show, rarely if ever did the plot have anything to do with the overall subject matter. Jennifer O'Dell's body could only carry that show so far. Plus Terra Nova is in serious need of better looking chicks.

If the show wasn't to be like the new lost or Lost lite it def needs to build the characters up way more than it is. Like with Lost that show had 20 Plus characters over time that we liked/cared about etc. This show has none(well for me.. skye ) the characters are basically cardboard cutouts of other cardboard cutout cliches.

I think you all are on the right complaint beef. So far the Dinosaurs have mostly been disappointing. I think most of us want to see some T Rex, and Velociraptors, Stegosaurus, etc. Instead they give us a flock of small flying reptiles, that kill 3 armed men by scratching their faces and necks...WTF? None of them even fire a shot at them; the same thing at the compound. When the flying reptiles attack; nobody fires a shot at them....not that it would matter; their weapons are lame.
And no water cannons or flame throwers on the walls for defense?
And they're having some sort of a Flea Market there in the compound....really? Nobody has anything better to do than wander around a Flea Market buying crap?
They have all this advanced electronic equipment with thermal imaging and other stuff; but they have no idea where their enemies (the sixers) are at. Surely they would have launched a satellite through the portal so they could monitor Weather patterns and more. They can't follow tire tracks to where the Sixers are at? Those vehicles should be leaving an easy trail to follow. If they don't come up with some cool stuff pretty soon; nobody will likely watch it anymore.
Despite it's flaws, I liked it. They have Jack Horner consulting, so you know the dino's are up to spec.
But the plot holes were a little weird. 1. Why are they shooting tranqs at the dino's? They are already on a new time-line, so there is no future to mess up.
2. Why did the cop proceed to go through the restricted area, and not back track to where he left the path after picking up his kid? OK, maybe he wanted to catch up with the family, but it was a pretty big risk, none the less.
3. They sure spent a lot of time walking across logs and stuff from the insertion point. Why don't they have a road cleared to there? See 1.
4. Why is there a conspiracy with the Sixers? Couldn't they just have not liked the way they place was being run and split off then? Bad lottery pull from the bad side of town or something?
The wall was made of logs. Why bring stuff through when you don't have to? Unless you have dino's that routinely crash through trees to get at prey, not a problem.
All that tech to make a time machine, and they couldn't clear the air? Were there any Moon/Mars colonies? Sleeper ships headed for another star system? ( oh, wait. Earth 2. never mind... )
I've only watched the premier episode on Hulu, so this opinion could change.
How much you wanna bet the smart daughter deciphers the rock scrawlings?

Did you miss the sonic cannons in Ep. 1? Why didn't they use those against the Sixers, is what I'm wondering.
Farmers market. (Did you expect them to build a WalMart?) Gives people something to do in their down time.
No satellite is a good question, Except they would have needed a launch pad, and all that. Maybe a balloon launch with orbital booster? Still too early in the colony maybe...
They do need to start feeding aircraft through, though.
The sixers are as heavily armed as the colony, I'm not sure I'd wanna go looking for them.

No...I mentioned their weapons were lame. But why not supplement them with easy weapons (water cannons/flame throwers) that can help repel most any kind of attack in a place that is very hostile.
Farmers market. (Did you expect them to build a WalMart?) Gives people something to do in their down time.
They all have time to lounge around and buy and sell guitars, and hats, and silly junk? What do they use for money...and what backs the money to give it value? Do they have a stockpile of Gold that gives their money its value? Do they get paychecks? It seems odd...but maybe it is normal somehow.

Isn't this show set about 130 years into the future...they ought to have the ability to launch a rocket through the portal to place a satellite into orbit.
They do need to start feeding aircraft through, though.
Yes...they should have some type of aircraft, their current weapons that fire some type of sonic blast should be affective against flying Reptiles...or even some very powerful strobe lights should be able to temporarily blind any flying Reptiles that might attack...allowing them to get away.
The sixers are as heavily armed as the colony, I'm not sure I'd wanna go looking for them.
They wouldn't need to go looking for them so much as they ought to be able to follow their vehicle tracks to at least know the general area they are located. And since they allow the Sixers to drive their vehicles into the compound and give them Medications or whatever; they should be able to plant some kind of transponder in, or on the vehicle that would allow them to track where it goes.
I like it. It's off to a bit of a slow start, but these kinds of series always are (though I thought the second half of the pilot was exciting and full of action and cool effects). You can't expect them to blow the whole season's budget on having all the coolest dinosaurs and visual effects in the first few episodes, and then have nowhere to go with the rest of the series.
I've heard from a few other places too, that they don't want to have a lot of the common, cliche'd dinosaurs like T-rex and stegosaurus and velociraptors. Instead, they want to showcase some lesser-known species and some "hypothetical" creatures designed just for the show... which is why they set the show in 85 million BC, which is kind of an "in-between" time of the dinosaur age that we don't know much about, so it gives them room to play around and stretch scientific fact a little. So that's why we get carnotaurus and acceraptor ("slashers") and the little pterodactly things, instead of the more familiar beasties.
