A newspaper summed it up thus: “Thanks for the mammary.” Linda Siegel, an 18-year-old Californian making her Wimbledon debut, had become a star, but it had nothing to do with her tennis ability. Deciding she needed to look her best for an encounter with six-time champion Billie Jean King, Siegel borrowed a tennis dress from one of her rivals. Unfortunately for her, but not for the horde of Fleet Street photographers sitting beside Court Two, Siegel had borrowed the dress from a player who was a couple of sizes smaller than she was. The result was that Siegel’s cups, quite literally, ran over. King won the match 6-1 6-3
