Is there a point you're trying to make by quoting this verse?

“Ideas create idols; only wonder comprehends anything. People kill one another over ideas. Wonder makes us fall to our knees.” St. Gregory of Nyssa (Sojourners Verse and Voice). c335-c394

Ouch!

I said something similar to this a while ago.

Spirituality will always be around, and the practice, divorced from the cognitive content of religion, the god-concepts and such, is very beneficial to some people.

And without those-god concepts, men won't kill each other because one tribe honors a polytheistic pantheon and another a single god. Or more subtle examples, like Protestant vs Catholic.

Also, bereft of that cognitive content, no one will be moved to, say, deny certain aspects of science, like evolution, or try and ram religion, as in the aforementioned cognitive content, down the throat of a student in the science classroom. Like in a particular Texas school district, some years ago.

Notable is the date of that quote. Literally within a century of the conversion of Constantine to Christianity. A time of turmoil to say the least.

Simply that if there is a god it, by it's own admission, is responsible for evil. Therefore it is not a benevolent deity.

Have you read the whole chapter 45? Do you understand what it's talking about? Otherwise, you're just quoting without context, which is intellectually dishonest. giggle

Oh yes the vaunted "context" which is always used as a cop-out.

Well, obviously you don't know what the passage you're quoting is about. Therefore your opinion of it is invalid.

Sorry to have allowed you to waste my time.
