I'd assumed that they were part of a 'check point' in the city and the tank was stationary meaning that the zombies could climb up and bite the gunner. Would also explain why the hatch underneath the tank was open as the crew inside would have been escaping through it while the zombies came in through the hatch on top of the tank. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into this
Either that or it was out of gas, which would explain why the are not trying to use it.
Also I would much prefer the quite and deadly cross bow to the guns because like he does, you can retrieve the arrows and keep going.
It all depends on the occurring event at the time. In a stealth scenario, the crossbow is best. When a crowd of the living impaired are having midnight munchies on your friends and survivormates a large capacity firearm is better.

I can't be absolutely certain of this, but I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a hatch on the underside of a tank.
First, where's it going to go? The whole inside of the tank consists of a large space where the turret revolves - gunner, loader and commander sitting alongside the breech of the gun and all rotating when the gun does; behind the turret and in a fire-separated compartment is the engine, and in front is the driver, who has about enough space to lie down.
Second, it would weaken the structural integrity hugely. The amount of strengthening required to recover the rigidity of the chassis would enormously increase the weight of the tank.
Third, unless it was completely and totally flush it would create snagging points that would be a problem for the tank's ability to drive over obstacles and rough terrain.
Fourth - why?
It was a cheat, and really spoiled my enjoyment of that episode.
On another note - just how did the zombies get at the crew of the tank? It's the sort of back story snag that the writers really should have avoided. In practice, there's no way the US Army could lose against zombies. A squadron of Apaches could clear the streets of any city.
I find it pathetic that the season is only 6 episodes long. 6 episodes is about a quarter of what a normal show gets... and half what shows on hbo shotime get.. this is such garbage.
why?????!!!????!!!!
I may drop it for this reason alone.
Some HBO shows are only 8 episodes. Also most shows that the test or are replacements are only 6 episodes.

overthinking it a tad are we?..we all believe if such a scenario happened then they zombies wouldnt have a chance in the first place, only thing that could defeat living humans would be if the infection rate was so rapid in a living human that is infected that it would be almost instantaneous..like in 28 days later where its measured in seconds and not hours or even minutes..but then..if half the human race was infected via some airborne pathogen and they started feeding on the other half, things would drastically change
either way, its a tv show..its not meant to be a realistic scenario
