But since the messianic movement was flourishing in that time period it's hard to blame Josephus for leaving out a laundry list of political agitators.
true, but Josephus list very minor agitators yet doesn't mention this supposedly important leader of the people? I think the theory that this Jesus Christ really did exist in history is somewhat absurd when you look at the evidence for his non-existence (as mentioned earlier, Nazareth wasn't even around in the 1st Century) compared to the evidence for his existence (very slight).
I am not suggesting that the Jesus myths just cropped up from nowhere, however, he didn't exist as one person but was made from the attributes of many Jewish heretic cultists that appeared during Roman rule. If jesus Christ is made up of many, he didn't truly exist. The same as king Arthur and many other mythical figures.

"Graves open wide and Helheim's doors too. The island's face is one searing fire; all without is a fear to see: Go, while there's time: yield back to your ship."
Any evidence for Jesus in the writings of Josephus have been accepted by the overwhelming majority of experts as later addition by somebody incensed that Josephus didn't mention Jesus.
A bit like Stalin editing those photographs to show himself present at Lenin's rallies when he was actually incarcerated in the Gulags.

NAZARETH, Israel - Days before Christmas, archaeologists on Monday unveiled what they said were the remains of the first dwelling in Nazareth that can be dated back to the time of Jesus - a find that could shed new light on what the hamlet was like during the period the New Testament says Jesus lived there as a boy...
The shards also date back to the time of Jesus, which includes the late Hellenic, early Roman period that ranges from around 100 B.C. to 100 A.D., Alexandre said. The determination was made by comparing the findings to shards and remains found in other parts of the Galilee typical of that period, she said.

Will do. If I find an open access version I will post the link too.
Be warned, journal articles are not exactly light reading, especially when 50% of the post is taken up with pottery analysis (including fabric type and manufacture method), as I suspect this one will be.
