Well I guess that's more of a traditional thing than anything.

It is justified by scripture.

I have no problem with female priests.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a Church that had a female preach the sermon and females distributed the communion wafers and grape juice.

Maybe Australia is more progressive than the rest of the World?

Neither do a great many Christian denominations but the Catholic Church does have a problem with that... that was what I was talking about.

It has been the cause of conflict between The Vatican and the Anglican Communion... personally if I were Dr Williams I would tell Benedict to keep his nose out of where it is not wanted.

Apostle Paul forbid women from having a position of authority in the congregation. If someone wants otherwise, they're failing the Scriptural model of true Christianity.

Hmmm, correct me if I'm wrong but Paul never met Jesus?

The book of Acts, Ch.9, when Paul was still using his given name, Saul.

So yes, Paul did meet Jesus.

He so say had a vision of Jesus on the road to Damascus... did he actually meet Jesus in the flesh during life?

Typical religious tactic. You can't justify a bigotry so you say "other religions are worse than us". Considering religion has granted itself the position of being our moral guardians, a position it has never justified or earned, there seems to be a lot of blame.

Catholics justify child abuse in their church by claiming that other churches have a worse record. Islam justifies violence by claiming there is still resentment over the Crusades...

When will this cycle of blame end and the self-professed "great" religions take some fecking responsibility?!

Oh but the Christians have repressed us, the Muslims have done this, the Jews are doing that. We're SO REPRESSED!!!!!!!!! All we want to do is butn homosexuals in peace and repress our women! LEAVE US ALONE!!!!

Grow up the lot of you!

Well perhaps you should form an atheist/non-theist support group and lobby for full equalilty?

Would that make you happy?

If you are knowledgable as you say you are then you certainly know that Islam has a far more rigid and stricter doctrine toward its women than the catholic church. It is not bigotry it is a fact, so don't pull that BS on me.

And where does it ever claim that catholics justify child-abuse? It is the priests who have done these terrible things not the faith itself.

Yes everyone ought to take responsibility for thier actions including having premaritial sex and taking abortions. You liberal types charge religious leaders and thier flock for disregarding responsibilty yet you advocate irresponsibilty on the rights of women to abortion on demand.

no matt from the way you react to me, moviefan, oracle or anyone else might refute your statements it is you who is acting quite the child.

Whether Paul met Jesus in the flesh or in the spirit (which proved to Saul/Paul that there was indeed life after death), he met Jesus face to face.

Convenient that Paul had the vision THAT NOBODY ELSE WITNESSED or we might accuse Paul of hijacking the early movement to forge in his own image. I mean such a meeting was incredibly fortunate, wasn't it? whistle
