When you ban guns, you also have to put an extremely tight grip on the black market.

The black market gets fueled largely by weapons that were once legally bought and were stolen, sold illegally, etc.
And we see how well that works with drugs. How well that worked with alcohol during prohibition.

Alcohol can be made in a basement or even at somebody's house.

Most drugs can be easily smuggled because they don't weigh very much and because they don't contain any metal or because they can be grown in the US.

Guns can't be easily smuggled and they can't just be made in a basement.

That is an assumption only. Have you tried to get a gun license? it is NOT!!!!! easy to get one.

The majority of time we can resolve issues without weapons but how would you do that when the other guy has a gun? The majority of time that you get surprised by somebody jumping in front of you, it's not a matter of life and death. But with the gun pointed, you will shoot that person.
Have you ever been shot at, by accident or on purpose? I have, and I shot back. The person stopped after I shot back, and no I didn't aim at them, I aimed in his general direction, if I wanted to I could have shot him, but I gave him a chance.

Having a gun can come in handy in the rare chance of a dangerous situation. But there are far too many other situations when having a gun can intentionally or not, escalate the situation. The price is too high.

The "price" you are talking about is your life, is that too high a price? I think not!

Ever hear of a "zip gun"?
1. zip gun
A crude weapon made usually in someones basement or garage where all the components of the gun are creatively constructed out of what is available to make the gun function. These are usaully made with such crude materials that often duct tape is even used to hold the thing together. It is usually designed to fire a low power cartridge that will not explode the barrel that is usually just pipe. Most zip guns are of .22 caliber or 12 Ga. shotgun as that is usually what is available in pipe sizes. The zip designation means that a rubberband has been used to propel a firing pin to ignite the cartridge. This method is most commonly used due the ease of finding rubberbands. This is not a hobbiest gun but a crude way to get ones hands on a gun usually to commit a murder or to be used in gang shootings or other such applications.

Yes, I have. But those can be made now already and I don't think there will be a whole Black Market filled with Zip Guns.
Unless you know what you're doing, they're not very efficient anyways and are more comparable to a sling shot than a gun!

If guns are banned, you would see a vast increase in zip gun production, so banning guns won't do any good. A gun is a gun, in the eyes of a criminal. shrug

I think you seriously underestimate the ingenuity of smugglers. As many people and tons of drugs that get smuggled across the border every day, guns would be just as easy.

A gun ban isn't going to happen anyway, so it's all academic.

If it explodes gunpowder and propels a slug into your body, I don't think you'll care that much what did it.
