So I am finally getting to the point where I might get a next gen system. I have a PS2 currently, but with the wrestling games having more features on the next gen consoles I figured it might be about time to get one.

See I have had a PS2 for a while, and was thinking about a PS3, because not only does it have the Smackdown! series, it also has Metal Gear! One of my favorite games too play. I also want Arkham Asylum, to play as the Joker, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, which is for all next gen systems too, and even the PS3 exclusive, Infamous, which looks so bad ass!

The deal breaker is the price tag, 300 bucks just seems like a lot!

Now on the 360 side, it has Smackdown!, Arkham Asylum, no Joker, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Dead Rising 1 & 2, and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. Not too mention the price tag is a bit cheaper, at $199, but you get the bare minimum, so really I would probably have to upgrade to the $250 system.

So what do you guys think? Which system is better overall? Which is better due to my choices in games?

both have their good and bad points and both will cost pretty much the same (if you want the xbox to do everything that the PS3 can do 'out of the box')

I don't own both so my opinion is a bit biased but Revan & DD do so they could advise you better

I own both a PS3 and Xbox360 and have to say right now I haven't touched my PS3 as much since...the only thing right now that's still making me keep my PS3 is God of War 3 when that comes out

if you care much for HD resolution, most PS3 games can only kick out 720p res, whereas 360 games are at 1080p res

so I would go with Xbox360 it has more games, seeing majority of good exclusives go to 360 such as Left4Dead 1 & 2 which will never be played with on a PS3... and has better online

the PS3 has free online but pales in comparison to Xbox live, another problem you will find is if you like playing with friends online, you may not find many who have a PS3 as many to most all have 360

in the end it all goes down to what you want, or what games or what the console offers that appeals to you more...or eventually own them both to solve the problem buy one now, then at a later time buy the other

Well i went with a PS3 when decided. I heard a lot of the ring of death problem on the XBOX and decided not to take that one.

199 is the retard pack. Theirs no Harddrive( no DLC, Demos, or VideoMarketPlace). Certain games require Harddrive if you want to play online. Also if you want to use WiFi, you need to buy a addon which is 99.99(not included in any of the 360's). PS3 has it built in. Once you start adding everything up you need for the 360 it's cheaper to get a PS3.

As of recently getting sick of the BS MS is pulling. example Brutal Legend DLC is Free on PS3, However if you want it on the 360 you have to fork over 5 dollars for it. Same thing happened to Valve with Left 4 Dead 1 DLC. Last night one of the Developers of IW(Infinity Ward- Modern Warfare 2) Tweeted about wanting avatar gear to be free, MS said no.

PS3 has the better exclusives, You have Infamous, Uncharted 2, KillZone 2, Ratchet & Clank: Future A Clank in Time, etc... all in 2009. Plus you have Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 1 & 2, Uncharted 1, Plus all the other PS3 Exclusives & upcoming titles like god of war III & Heavy Rain(which are both Early 2010).

- In 2010/2011 MS is going to be shifting their focus to Natal Camera. If you want to stand infront of a camera to play your game, good for you. I didn't buy a 360 for this BS addon. If I want to to move my hands while I play a game I would play the Wii.

- PS3 also supports more Video Codecs & formats if you want to use your PS3 as a media Hub. Plus PS3 has Blu-Ray.

- 360 has issues even today's 360. I have gone though five 360's. My friend has gone though 12 360's. Their not all RRoD issues. I had DVD Drive break once, GPU got fried twice, rest were RRoD issues.

I say 360, but that's just because it's my preference. It all depends what kind of games you're into. A lot of them are on both systems though.

I have both consoles, but I've had the 360 for almost two years and I've had the PS3 for about two months. Fortunately I've never had any problems with my 360. I can already see that the PS3 is definitely more capable of doing all sorts of cool tech stuff that I don't understand.
It has Wi-Fi which is nice because I can be on the net with both consoles at once. You can set up a file server on your PC to download stuff onto the PS3, which I've done a lot of. I love that you can set pictures as your background/wallpaper on the PS3. Very few things are better than hot women and awesome consoles.
Of course, the gaming preference. You mentioned Metal Gear which is one of my favorite franchises, and the reason I got a PS3. Depending on what your favorite genres are, you have a number of options either way. I like racing games, Forza 3 and PGR 4 on the 360. Maybe GT5 will actually come out on the PS3 next year, after only 356 years of development.
People mentioned the differences in online and DLC. I haven't had the PS3 long enough to make a solid comparison, because I don't play online that much.
Even though I have not had technical problems with my 360, I would recommend a PS3 because it seems like it can only get better with time.

PS3 are genrally more reliable, I have had 4 x box 360's todate because of faults but the 360 is better in my opinion for online play, PS3 is better for exclusive games

The added bonus of PS3 though is that your also getting a blu ray player, which was the main reason I got the PS3

I don't know about the US but we can only play PS2 games on the 60gb model (which I have but have changed the hard drive to a 320gb). All of the other models don't have backwards compatibility

There are so many great points in this thread, and I am really glad you guys have responded so well to this. When one person makes a great point about one, I see another great counter point about the other, this is so tough!, lol.

Both systems seem so awesome, it's price that keeps me away from PS3 and the Red Ring of Death that keeps me away from XBox. I mean I love Metal Gear, but I really love my zombies!

I had fear of the RROD as well and stayed away from the XBox for some time till I decided to get the Elite version

Oh, I know what games they are. I own Pure, and I really enjoy it. I haven't played Lego Batman, but Lego Indiana Jones was a pretty fun game.

Untrue, actually. The launch 60gb and 20gb versions have full PS2 hardware compatibility. The next SKU, the 80gb, dropped hardware compatibility, but it still maintained PS2 backwards compatibility via software. All PS3 models have PS1 backwards compatibility.

I work at a store that sells PS3, and we get a few customers with the new models that don't have the backwards capability. And not every version with the initial release had it, only one model had it.

PS3 for me. Seen and heard to many people having to send them back due to problems.
