I always wondered who it was that originally made up that whole notion of "don't discuss religion or politics", because there's been more than a few moments in my life where I've wanted to knock them out. This unspoken policy is rooted in fear above all else, and makes so many people hesitate to stand for what they truly believe. They're so terrified of clashng with others, that it numbs them to their core. Faith and morals are issues that should be freely discussed in public, without fear or shame.

These topics go right to the very heart and soul (so to speak) of who we each are. These are very personal topics. The speak to our most personal and heartfelt beliefs - and those who would attempt to challenge those beliefs are often held in extreme contempt. It should not be, because intellectual curiosity should be something that we all share in common... but that is not always the case... hence the friction.
But I still think, despite the turmoil these subjects do engender, that these topics are very important to discuss.
I think there are no more important topics to have a dialogue on than these. These are the topics that really matter in our lives. All the rest are merely distractions from the important things in life...
