We're waiting for an appropriate time (when traffic is at it's lowest) before we shut it down.
How about a forum software upgrade/update instead (of wasting time on another small problem)?

You're preaching to the choir. I would have done it years ago if I could just go ahead and do it myself. My hands are tied on this and whenever I mention it to the owners, I receive empty promises that they will look into doing it.

I don't think a proper Christmas theme is possible but we could probably do one in Christmassy colours (red/green?)
As for the banner, people like to complain here, you probably noticed . I spent ages on some last year and boones spent a long time on his the year before and people moaned about them. We are going to use one this year but it probably won't go up until a week or maybe even a few days before the 25th.

yea just the colors is what i mean, with a banner with a girl in christmas garb.
and people will complain, but it's up to the mod's so people can shut it, actually i complained about the current one(my first time not liking one, hehe)
. I spent ages on some last year and boones spent a long time on his the year before and people moaned about them. We are going to use one this year but it probably won't go up until a week or maybe even a few days before the 25th.
