I don't know if its a bug or not. I had this problem years ago when I first got the computer, got it fixed (somehow) but with the reformat and reinstall its back and I can't remember how it was fixed. I've tried the C-Media website for tech support but they haven't responded and their forum requires a Mod to okay all new registrations and they haven't gotten around to that either.
To me, this has software issue written all over it. It's obvious that the hardware is working fine. I have not used, nor have I had to troubleshoot the audio set up that you have installed on your PC. My apologies, I wish I could have been more helpful.
No, I understand. Its a bizarre issue. I mean, how can you let a bug that causes settings to not be saved get thru even the compiling the program? You'd think that someone on the programming team would have noticed that.
I agree. And that says something about the company. You've now given me a heads up on audio technology to avoid, unfortunately you were the innocent victim in all of this.
I've always used Creative Labs audio products and have nothing but good things to say about them. They have similar configuration utilities and, often times, the audio will not work until you have run them, but they always save the settings when you reboot. I'm intrigued by your story and would very much like to know what they say about all of this.
If they ever get back to me I'll try to remember to let you know. Unfortunately I don't remember if I had much of a choice with this. The sound is integrated and part of the motherboard, so its not like I can swap a new soundboard in.

You can always disable the onboard audio in the BIOS and get a more effective audio solution via expansion slots. Seems like a very good idea for you at this point.
