Please note the change in the rules about copying of image codes. To prevent the stealing of image codes from other forums, the rule has been updated to encompass the copying of image codes from other forums and pasting them directly onto SP in addition to the existing rule about copying image codes from SP. If you are taking pictures from other forums to repost at SP or vice versa, please re-upload the pictures again yourself.
Rule 6 of conduct now reads:
6) Please Do Not copy and paste image codes from this forum onto another forum and from another forum to here, unless you are the original uploader. Image links tend to die quickly when copied onto other sites. This is also considered a rude and lazy action because it takes time and work for the original poster to upload their pictures.

Very good rule...I've seen a lot of different complaints about this on other boards...nothing get's under a poster's skin more than having their codes hijacked! ...thanks for this!

I'm not argueing with the rule, I understand the reasoning behind it. But I do have to wonder what the image hosting sites think, since it does effectively force them to host the same pic multiple times.

my opinion is that since several of the hosting sites changed to make it possible to click a pic link and then get the posting code, that they like the idea of hosting things once. However that breaks down with the volume of hits SP gets. Links tend to die sooner with an extremely large number of hits, and on SP alone a popular post can have several 1000 hits in just a few days. Add in other forums, and the odds become high of dead links. So smaller forums may safely be able to copy links, but on SP it has produced poor results.

Yep, and when you do see thumbs that lead to the dreaded "image removed due to bandwidth" type of sign, those are usually pic links that have been copied over in multiple sites.

Has anyone here ever heard of usercash? I think a lot of people will get pissed off when they read this, because there are lurkers who steal your image codes (without crediting you) and make ca$h out of it.
Here's what that UC does.
Say I host an image at location A. Mr Theft copies the image code and gets it processed by UC and gets the UC image code. The UC image code takes the clicker to Location B. Location B is a site containing ads and also hotlinks to Location A. Every time someone clicks on a usercash thumb, the account owner gets some money.

If you checked the rules, you'd see that user cash and related sites have been banned for a long time now for use on SP.

I knew it all along. I was refering to lurkers on SP stealing codes and posting them through usercash on other forums.

With regards to a 'Usercash' image what I have done in the past was to copy & paste the link into the address bar and take out the 'usercash' prefix in the url then the originalimagevenue/imageshack url would be how it should and still live and no bucks for usercash.

Thanks, but rather than repairing those posts, it's less work and more to the point if we wipe them out. Why should we Moderators have to redo what should have been done right in the first palce?
