[Thanks to both Cam & Cut for permission to present this idea, as well as your input to develop.]
Ok so it's not really much of a system but I wanted to help contribute something that folks can incorporate into their posts if they want to protect or at least discourage some of those sites out there that automatically 'sweep' our posts for codes. There are a couple of sites that are currently doing so.
If you care to use it, just place this in your normal posts as a regular old thumbnail with the rest of your pix thumbs. The sites that steal our codes will sweep it up with the rest. It might at least give us some more visibility on those sites and let those users know we're here and they don't need to waste their time elsewhere.
I'm too lazy to use it myself even, but I figured I'd put it out there anyways for those who want to use it.
Would love to hear other ideas too!
Here's how the thumb will appear:
... and here's the code to add to your post:
Code:

It's a nice thought, as I also know of places that do just that. However, if you put it at the end of a post, wouldn't it be easy for anybody to identify it after the pictures and simply delete the code? Or are you assuming that the people that do 'sweep' the codes don't bother checking stuff like that? Or is that the whole point of 'sweeping' codes, I don't really know.

I definitely realize it's totally defeatable ... any additional solutions would be awesome. For the most part I suspect they have automated programs that go out and suck code from us and they don't necessarily bother filtering anything else. But there's certainly that possibility.

If what you say there is true, then it could work. If, however, they do scan the code for stuff like that, then you could 'hide' the thumbnail in the middle rather than at the end of a post with a significant number of pictures. The code might not be so instantly visible then.

i was thinking exactly what you were..
they will probably 'suck it up' with all the rest and then see that they've posted the SP thing too.. it'll probably be as simple as editing a post, but at the very least, they have to put a few minutes work into locating which code it is and getting rid of it without touching anything else..
at the most, it'll marginally disrupt them, but i still think it'll be worth it and i'll definitely be doing it
great concept boones

this is just a glorified warning sticker right?
would be nicer if it could be implemented into the actual IV code, so that when the pix are copy and pasted from here, all the thumbs show up like that.

I've been in the process of looking for a way to disable imagecodes from even appearing in quote messages. I've seen this on other forums and it's a great way to deter people from stealing codes. The other forums that employ this use different software unfortunately, so I'm having a difficult time trying to find something similar for UBB.Threads.

Interesting idea, but why not make it a link to the SP Forum itself? Like this:
Code:

i'm not exactly understanding what we're trying to prevent here... the images posted on SP are not hosted by SP itself. instead they're hosted on public image hosting services for free. (imageshack, imagevenue etc) SP is not losing any bandwidth here so what exactly is the problem?
if said pictures were hosted on the SP domain of course it would be very easy to disallow remote linking.
again i'm just asking because i'm not understanding the problem.

I have copied imagecode (from my own posts, of course) to other forums before, and I can never get the images to actually show (or am I mixing it up with another place?)...the code is slightly different, I think...

The people taking the thumbnail link codes and posting them on other boards & forums are not the people who are posting them here. If the original poster chooses to use the same post codes in multiple places, that's fine. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. But when someone else comes along and copies those links to another forum without asking, the original poster feels like he's been robbed.

If the same codes get used on multiple forums, they're more likely to be killed by the image hosts, not to mentions that it's very rude to the person who took the time to upload the pictures in the first place.

That's the point: This forum changes the [img] automatically to [image]. If you only copies this code and pastes it in a forum with php software the pics don't show up.

technically, you can just mess about with the code manually and get the pix to work, elsewhere, I'm not sure if your average leech would go to the trouble of doing that though.

we gotta work an intelligent way.
lets' say you steal code from here. The code is changed to a picture of me in a French Maid's outfit whipping a another person in S and M gear
that would scare anyone from doing that
