Strange as it may sound, I always saw the stars and paid no attention to them. I did look through the rules a time or two to see how to rate a post and never found the answer.
To be honest, I never base opening a thread on it's rating or it's particular poster. I base it entirely on the celebrity in the thread title (OK, and maybe key words like "see-through", "kissing another girl", "thong' and "topless".
(And definitely if I see SEB's names in it somewhere...LOL)

Imo, the ratings helped finding popular threads easier. Without these I'll now have to read the names and descriptions even more carefully as SP doesn't have any real thread icons that could identify the content better than something like a smilie.
This thread gets three stars anyway...

The amount of replies and views has always been the best indicator of which threads are the most popular. The rating system was probably the most inaccurate.
