I recently bought a 16GB flash drive and whenever I transfer pictures to it, I cannot view them. No idea what I'm doing wrong. I've tried transferring files by many different methods, moving them, sending them, copying them, and drag & drop.
The files will be visible at first and I can look at them, but they soon disappear and become corrupt. When I first got the drive, I moved a few folders and videos to it and ended up losing them all. I actually have a few files I can see that haven't been erased, so I don't think the drive is defective.
I need some advice on the best method to transfer pitcures to the drive, this is driving me to the brink of insanity.

Yeah, it's nothing but storage space. If files are getting corrupted, the drive's faulty.

Difficult to say. I would save someone ripped you off. I have heard that a lot of drives use not the space they should, meaning you buy 16GB but it is only a 8GB or less chip. So the controller was manipulated to make is respond as an 8GB drive. There are tools which can check the real capacity, please search because I don't have a link (or even a name). All in all there is only one thing you can do, give it back because this drive will never work. If possible get a refund, because if it is a wrong chip, a lot of drives of the same type will be faulty.

Thanks. I'll maybe try it out a tad bit more, but I guess I'll be returning it. I got a great deal online, I guess it was too good of a deal because the product doesn't work.
Can anyone recommend some good ones to buy, or should I just buy an external hard drive since I want to store some pics?

What brand did you get? Try formatting it. Save your files elsewhere beforehand. Sandisk, PNY, and Verbatim are good brands. But an external usb powered portable hard drive might be better. I have two (120gb & 160gb Western Digital's).

I've got an 8GB Sony flash drive that I had similar problems with. It came with some kind of compression software built in that was supposed to reduce the size of files placed on the drive to save disk space. This was my problem. I reformatted the drive and deleted the compression software and haven't had any problems since. Flash Drives are generally formatted in FAT32 so they can be used on almost any computer. Does your drive show the correct amount of free space? Try running a disk repair program like Norton Disk Doctor (or the built in Windows Disk Checker) on it and see if it finds any errors, too. It sounds like something is getting corrupted during transfer, though. You might find these useful:

Many flash drives are cheap, and they don't last long. Spend just a little bit more, get a name brand. This is from harsh personal experiance. As far as I know, they can't be salvaged.

I just formatted it today and it seems to be working. I still lost a lot of files, but oh well, this will help in the long run. I still might save up to get an external HD.
The flash drive is a Kingston DataTraveller BTW

You could try re-formatting the drive (FAT32 I think), but as others here have said, if files are going corrupt on their own, thats not a good sign.
I recently purchased an 8GB model from Sandisk at Costco for $29. Corsair has a 64GB model out (!!!), but its well over $200!

But check before you delete the files you have copied. Meaning copy all the files back to your hdd and compare them to the original. Everything else would be too risky for me.
