I'm a die-hard cheese fan but Brett definitely needed to go. As far as I'm concerned this was all his fault. I mean he was the one who retired. It was that one event that made Green Bay move on. They had to. So now Brett wants back? I don't blame the organization for telling him what to go do with himself.

Your point is faulty though, human aging doesn't run backwards. Favre in fact posted 2 seasons (05 and 06) with QB ratings in the 70s. Last year is an outlier point. Could he come back as a serviceable, or perhaps even above average QB again this year? Of course, he's a highly skilled passer and a freak of nature physically (as anyone playing at his level for so long is). However, every year that age progresses (once you're past your prime, as he is) it becomes more likely your skills will deteriorate, and Favre has posted mediocre years 2 of the last 3 years.
But skill level doesn't necessarily have that great a decline as people get older. Posting those kinds of numbers('07) is not a fluke. You don't just luck into that kind of year. One could just as easily argue that '05 and '06 are the "outliers" on a brilliant Hall of Fame career. In '05 Javon Walker blew out his knee first game. The top 3 RBs were not even average that year, Donald Driver was the only weapon they had and the OL had issues as well if I remember correctly. In '06 Jennings helped out a little and the running game was average at best. It was pretty much Driver providing the majority of the help. It's easy to say Favre had a bad year and it's because of his age...it's a little deeper than that. Favre has what could be a very, very good OL in front of him and two nice WR weapons in Coles and Cotchery(after this year more than only your hardcore football fans will know him).
