What a freakin awesome night of gymnastics. Regardless of who came out out on top, it was an exciting and riveting event. You could see the stress and anxiety just drain out of them as soon as they finished competing.
Shawn was judged too harshly in the early rotations and that made it a bit more of a struggle for her medal, but Nastia performed flawlessly the entire night.
So glad they took the top two spots. Nastia's emotional afterward and at the medal ceremony says it all. And who knows, Shawn is still young and fit enough to have another shot at it in 2012 if she keeps at it.

What a beautiful, beautiful night!!!  The only thing that could've made it any better would have been Semenova or Pavlova picking up bronze, but their performances were a joy to watch regardless of the outcome.

it was definitely a superb showing by the both of them. Nastia got the best of Shawn, this time for gold. and shawn is such a great competitor--after beating Nastia in worlds, she was the first one to congratulate her...i thought that was awesome

I think Shawn got completely screwed in her beam routine score - other routines got the same 9.05 or so with MULTIPLE balance checks.
However, I am so happy for Nastia to get her "Gold Fever" daddy off her back....geez...if she didn't win, he'd have her in the Olympics till 2024. Even so, I bet it didn't take him 2 minutes to use the terms "now" and "2012".
I've heard that he is a good guy and philathropist, but throughout the trials and other USA meets, all I saw him give her was scorn and disappointment at "underperfection" (c)kingtopcat 2008.
Nastia and Shawn are delightful young women and I congratulate them.
Now, if somebody could just "closed caption" Bella Karoly!
