Hi All,
Can someone please post directions on how to save Youtube videos to my harddrive.
I am using Firefox as my browser.
Many thanks,

I used to like Zamzar to convert them to a real format, but now keepvid allows you to enter teh URL and download them as MP4 files which are a lot better to tehoriginal file than teh FLV's that get downloaded.

Firefox for Geeks and Power Users a. Type about:blank in the Firefox address bar b. Now click List cache entries or directly type about:cache?device=disk (Disk cache device) c. Press Ctrl+F and try to location the flash file by typing some part of website URL or the flash file name or just .swf. After some hit and trial, you should be able to locate the swf file URL d. Click the SWF URL to open the Cache Entry Information page. Right click on the link and choose "Save link as"
I use "about:cache?device=disk" a lot, one tip though is clear your private data before loading the page that has the file you want, you'll have way less things to sort through to find it. With videos its usually pretty easy to find cause it'll be a really big filesize compared to all the other entries. As well you need to let the video play/load fully before it'll show up. This works for many types of files flv, jpgs, etc and saves you from having to install extensions/add-ons.
-------------------- Thanks to boones for the avy.

*hehe* Nitz, you primitive geek (speaking as a fellow geek). That works and everything, bud, but DownloadHelper does all of that in a single step.
To be honest though, I still use that method from time to time for files that encrypt their transmission, so it's still good for people to know.

also, while on the subject of flv files, there's a very handy guide for converting flv files to avi, here
software required :
- FLV Extract
- ffdshow
- VirtualDubMod
- DivX 6.x or XviD codec
- ffdshow is used to enable vp6/vp6f/flv1 codecs
- flv extract does what it says on the tin. Extracts flv to avi (either vp6,vp6f or flv1 codec), and separate mp3 audio
- virtualdubmod re dubs the avi & audio, and converts it to 'normal' avi wrapper (i.e xvid/divx etc)

Have you tried:
http://www.vdownloader.es/
(will download and convert using the ffmpeg converter, or just download if you choose)
or just going to www.keepvid.com and entering the link from the youtube site?
